Standard 5 Reflection
Social Skills Newsletter
Artifact Description
In EDU 313- Inclusion Strategies, we had to make a newsletter informing parents and other teachers about a specific disability. This newsletter could be sent home with students to broaden the knowledge of parents and guardians. My newsletter was about different social skill deficits within students. The newsletter gave an overview on specific social skills, prevalence, teaching social skills and different evidence based social skill programs.
Alignment Reflection
This artifact is aligned with the INTASC standard 5: Application of Content. This artifact follows this standard because it provides information on social skills for students with social skill deficits. The newsletter will broaden parents and others knowledge of social skill deficits. It will also allow others to engage in critical thinking by using differing perspectives. Through this newsletter, others will have a better understanding on how to handle these different situations both in and out of the classroom.
Personal Reflection
Composing a newsletter on a disability I thought was going to be rather easy, hence the broad subject. I was given social skill deficits and I had no idea where to even begin. Doing different research, I learned more information that I had originally planned. I like that I am informing others and a deficit that is usually forgotten about. As a teacher, it is not only my job to teach students, but also parents and other peers as well. If I can educate others through a simple newsletter, why would I not want to do that?
